Examine the Sea Turtle lesson

Completed

In the Sea Turtle lesson, learners practice coding concepts that they've already learned and gain new programming concepts.

  • For each activity, learners practice creating algorithms as they navigate the paths and clean the debris on the beach.
  • For each algorithm, learners create a sequence of defined steps executed in a specific order.
  • Learners also learn how to use loops to make their Agent work more efficiently. Loops are a structure that repeats a set of instructions until it's told to stop.
  • To plan their algorithms, learners use pseudocode, or an informal description of the computer program they plan to write.

The Sea Turtle lesson teaching materials provide educators with everything they need to prepare the lesson for learners. The teaching materials are located under the External Reference tab on every lesson plan page. Under the External Reference tab, there's one PDF file that includes the Unit overview, educator guide, and formative assessment. Also under the External Reference tab is a link to the PowerPoint presentation for the lesson and the world file. Prepare to use the lesson with learners by reviewing these materials.

  1. Go to the Sea Turtle Assistance lesson plan page
  2. Review the Educator Guide for Sea Turtle Assistance. Note the different sections:
    • The overview with the Unit summary, the list of lessons, and the learning goals.
    • The computer science standards taught.
    • The required educator preparation.
    • The detailed lesson plan with multiple components.
    • Unit extensions.
  3. Review the formative assessment.
  4. Review the PowerPoint presentation for the Sea Turtle lesson.
  5. Review the summative assessment for this unit - Revisiting Biomes Performance Task.
  6. Review the video to reflect on the teaching materials.
