Summary
This module explored Minecraft Education and Computer Science. It provided an overview of Minecraft Education’s computer science curriculum and discussed the goals of the curriculum. It also demonstrated how Minecraft Education computer science lessons use block-based programming to introduce young learners to programming concepts and highlighted the progression of coding concepts taught from lower primary to upper primary levels. Educators learned how to use Microsoft MakeCode to program in Minecraft Education and explored lessons in the Computing with Minecraft and the Coding FUNdamentals units. Educators also examined how the Computing with Minecraft and the Coding FUNdamentals units assesses learners’ understanding and how they incorporate a coding mindset, computational thinking, computer science standards, and community connection.
