Delete your Microsoft 365 Copilot interaction history
As an administrator, it's essential that you know how to manage and delete the interaction history of Microsoft 365 Copilot to ensure data privacy and security. Copilot interaction history is the record of the prompts and responses that your organization's users have with Microsoft 365 Copilot. Examples of Copilot interactions include asking Copilot to help you rewrite a paragraph in a Word document or asking Copilot to generate a to-do list from your notes in OneNote.
Managing the interaction history of Microsoft 365 Copilot is crucial for several reasons:
- Data privacy. Ensuring that sensitive information isn't retained longer than necessary. Imagine a scenario where an employee accidentally shares sensitive customer information during a chat with Microsoft 365 Copilot. By managing and deleting interaction history, you can ensure that this sensitive information isn't retained longer than necessary. In doing so, you help protect customer privacy.
- Compliance. Meeting organizational and legal requirements for data retention and deletion. For example, consider a company that must adhere to strict data retention policies due to industry regulations. If the company regularly manages and deletes interaction history, it can meet organizational and legal requirements for data retention and deletion. In doing so, it can also avoid potential fines and legal issues.
- Security. Minimizing the risk of data breaches by regularly purging unnecessary data. For example, consider a situation where an unauthorized person gains access to the interaction history of Microsoft 365 Copilot. By minimizing the risk of data breaches through regular purging of unnecessary data, you can protect the organization from potential security threats.
