Process mining canvas activity
The following image shows an example of a process mining canvas. Use this example to guide you through planning for process improvement. The examples in this activity aren't entirely automated processes, but each has automated elements. The goal of this activity is to help you identify the correct problems to solve and the influencers.
Choose one or both of the following examples, and then document by using the sample canvas.
Example 1 - Consumer
Consider a scenario where you're going through the process of making a large purchase, such as household appliances. To adequately plan for the process, ask yourself the following questions:
- What steps are involved?
- Do you need to conduct research?
- Do you have price considerations?
- Do you need to seek product reviews?
- Should you seek advice from friends?
After you decide what to purchase, you need to determine the steps for the actual purchase and the delivery of your selections. Additionally, you should consider whether you have an old appliance that needs to be removed or not.
Example 2 - Online retailer
Consider a scenario where you're in the process of selling a large purchase, such as household appliances. To adequately plan for the process, ask yourself the following questions:
- What steps are involved?
- Do you have supply chain considerations?
- Can you adjust prices to sell faster?
- Can you offer financing instead of reduced prices?
Critical questions
After you finish documenting your process on the sample process mining canvas, you need to ask yourself the following questions to evaluate whether your plan solves the problem:
Did you identify the correct problem to solve?
Do you have all participants listed in their correct roles?
Do possible constraints exist?
What friction points exist that you should address?
Are the steps in the correct order of operations? Do you need to address variable paths?
