Exercise - Pick the right report source

Relecloud's leadership sends over a batch of questions ahead of the budget review—some about license adoption, some about productivity impact, some about compliance detail. Match each question to the source actually built to answer it.

Prerequisites for this exercise:

  • A Microsoft 365 tenant with AI Administrator access to Copilot reports in the Microsoft 365 admin center.
  • Awareness-level access to Viva Insights Copilot Analytics for reference (you don't need to configure it—just recognize where it fits).

Task: Match each leadership question to its report source

For each question below, decide whether the Microsoft 365 admin center, the Viva Insights Copilot Dashboard/Copilot Analytics, Microsoft Purview audit logs, or Power Platform/Copilot Studio Analytics is the correct source, and note why. Write your answer down before checking the reasoning.

  • Question A: "How many of our licensed users actually opened Copilot at least once last month?"
  • Question B: "Is Copilot measurably changing how our people work—less time in meetings, fewer emails, that kind of shift?"
  • Question C: "We need a per-user, per-action audit trail of every Copilot prompt and response for a compliance review. Where do we get that?"
  • Question D: "How much are our organization-built Copilot Studio agents actually being used?"

Suggested answers:

  • A → Microsoft 365 admin center. This is a basic license-and-usage question—Enabled Users versus Active Users—exactly what the admin center's Copilot usage report is built to answer.
  • B → Viva Insights Copilot Dashboard/Copilot Analytics. "Changing how people work" is a productivity-impact question. The Dashboard's Impact tab is purpose-built for shifts in meeting time, email volume, and Teams chat patterns—the admin center's usage report doesn't measure this.
  • C → Microsoft Purview audit logs. Compliance-grade, per-activity detail is exactly what Purview's audit logging captures—neither the admin center nor the Copilot Dashboard is built for this level of granularity.
  • D → Power Platform/Copilot Studio Analytics. Organization-built agent consumption is a distinct population from general Copilot usage; Copilot Studio Analytics is the source built specifically for it.
