Create desktop flows using the recorder

Completed

The recorder is used to assist users in the development of flows. Using the recorder, users can perform tasks manually, and Power Automate for desktop will automatically generate actions to mimic their behavior.

The recorder can be used to automate any application from your desktop including:

  • Windows and desktop applications

  • Web pages and web applications

When it records applications, the recorder generates UI automation, mouse, and keyboard actions and/or web browser-related actions. Recorder captures any of these actions in the same recording session.

Accessing and using the recorder

To record a flow, select Recorder in the toolbar of the flow designer.

When the recorder dialog launches, you will see two options including Record with Copilot (Preview) and Record. We won't cover the Record with Copilot in this unit, but there is a link to a demo that you can view to see where this feature is going. Select Record, then select Next to open the Recorder.

This dialog is where a preview of the recorded actions will appear during the recording. To suspend the recording, select Pause. You can add comments to any action by selecting Add a comment and then typing your comment. To erase a misstep or comment, select the Delete icon on the upper right of the action/comment.

When the recorder is used, you'll see the Start of autogenerated actions using the recorder text at the beginning of the flow and the End of autogenerated actions using the recorder at the end.
