Introduction
Microsoft 365 Copilot brings the power of AI directly into the tools people use every day, such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams. Beyond these built-in experiences, organizations can extend Copilot’s value through Copilot agents—custom AI assistants designed to support specific business processes, departments, or scenarios. Administrators play a critical role in ensuring these agents are created, secured, and managed in a way that delivers value while maintaining compliance and protecting organizational data.
This module introduces the foundational administrative tasks involved in managing Copilot agents. By the end of the module, you should understand how to:
- Create agents using the Copilot Studio lite experience or the Copilot agent tool in SharePoint, including the differences between these environments.
- Test and edit agents to ensure they function as intended and provide accurate, helpful responses to end users.
- Manage access and permissions so the right users and groups can interact with agents, while protecting sensitive data through licensing, environment roles, and role-based access control.
- Apply governance practices to approve, monitor, and update agents throughout their lifecycle, ensuring they remain secure, compliant, and aligned with organizational needs.
- Monitor and manage the agent lifecycle using Microsoft 365 and Power Platform admin tools, from creation through retirement.
This unit provides the foundation for understanding what Copilot agents are and why their administration matters. In the lessons that follow, you gain the knowledge and hands-on steps needed to perform these administrative tasks confidently. This module equips you with the skills to create, configure, secure, and govern Microsoft 365 Copilot agents, ensuring they’re both effective for end users and compliant with organizational policies.
