Establish a Microsoft 365 Copilot Center of Excellence
One of the best ways to drive user enablement is through peer learning, which fosters a culture of knowledge sharing. To achieve this, we recommend establishing a community of practice or Copilot Center of Excellence (CoE).
What is a Copilot Center of Excellence (CoE)?
A Center of Excellence (CoE) is a virtual community that allows Copilot users to connect, share ideas, and support each other. It creates buzz for this new way of working, allowing users to learn from those who’ve successfully implemented Copilot. It’s an essential step in generating excitement and driving healthy usage of Microsoft 365 Copilot.
In a standard rollout program, you'll receive periodic feedback from your champions or early adopters, with only a few of them giving you daily insights into their experience. However, with Copilot experiences, we’ve seen that feedback cycles are more rapid as people learn together at scale. They share prompt ideas and how they reach their “aha moment.” To support this, having a well-managed community of practice or CoE is crucial for success.
You might already have a location where your user community interacts with each other or submit IT Helpdesk requests. The Copilot CoE can enhance this current location by providing best practice guidance, easy access to peer and training schedules and continuous inspiration for new Copilot scenarios. A community of practice is a key element of this AI transformation, but you can choose where to locate it based on your organization's current practices.
Use Microsoft 365 technology to help people adopt Microsoft 365 Copilot by following our CoE best practices to build your own community of practice.
Best practices:
- Centralize team communications
- Implement adoption and project management tools
- Enable Microsoft communication and engagement
Our suggested framework for creating this community for you and your Copilot users, includes SharePoint and Teams. You can build these mediums into any existing community you already have, and we suggest naming it Copilot Center of Excellence. SharePoint pages provide resources and updates, while Teams channels offer platforms for announcements, discussions, and technical management.
The suggested CoE framework:
- SharePoint lists
- SharePoint pages
- SharePoint site navigation
- Teams channels
- Teams tabs for specific channels
- Welcome messages for specific Teams channels
Use our Build your own CoE Guide for more information on how to implement our suggested framework to create your own community of practice.
Tip
If your organization has Microsoft Viva, use the best practices outlined in the Launch Copilot with Microsoft Viva Engage Guide and in the Microsoft Viva for Copilot Enablement guide to successfully support scale and rollout of Microsoft 365 Copilot.
