Send the report for final signature

Completed

After you complete dictation and editing, the final step is to route the report for attending signature. This step moves the report from a draft state into the formal review workflow.

Key concepts

  • Final signature workflow: Residents can't sign reports independently. Reports must be submitted to an attending physician for final validation and signature.
  • Workflow routing: When you send a report for review, the system routes it to a selected attending or section based on workflow configuration.
  • Report completeness requirement: A report must meet quality and structural requirements before submission.
  • Quality Check validation: Quality Check alerts identify issues such as laterality mismatch, sex mismatch, and missing recommendations. These issues must be addressed before submission.
  • Structured reporting with AutoText: Templates help ensure standardized sections, such as procedure, findings, and impression, which improves consistency before final submission.

Workflow dependencies

  • The report must be associated with a valid order.
  • All Quality Check alerts must be reviewed and resolved.
  • Required report sections must be complete.
  • You must select an appropriate attending or section for routing if one isn't already assigned.

Procedural guidance

Send a report for final signature

  1. Confirm report readiness.
    • Review the full report from start to finish.
    • Verify that all sections are complete and accurate.
  2. Resolve all Quality Check alerts.
    • Review any alerts in the interface.
    • Correct issues such as laterality mismatch or sex mismatch.
    • Confirm that alerts are cleared before you proceed.
  3. Validate order association.
    • Confirm that the report is linked to the correct imaging order or orders.
    • Update the association if needed.
  4. Confirm routing details.
    • Verify the assigned attending or section.
    • If no attending is assigned, select the appropriate one based on workflow requirements.
  5. Perform a final review.
    • Check for clarity, accuracy, and completeness.
    • Correct any remaining transcription or formatting issues.
    • Ensure that AutoText content is fully customized to the case.
  6. Send the report for review.
    • Select Send for Review.
    • Confirm routing details if prompted.
    • Submit the report.

Best practices

  • Don't send reports with unresolved alerts. Unresolved alerts can delay review or require addenda.
  • Perform a full read-through before submission to reduce rework.
  • Confirm routing details to avoid delays in attending review.

Applied scenario

You complete dictation for an MRI exam and use an AutoText template to structure the report. During review, you resolve a laterality mismatch and add a missing follow-up recommendation.

You confirm that the report is linked to the correct order and verify that all sections are complete. After you select the appropriate attending, you perform a final read-through and submit the report by using Send for Review.

The report is now routed for attending signature.
