Performance and scalability

Completed

You can improve the performance of Inventory Visibility, which is a highly scalable application. Here you'll see how to improve performance through product index hierarchy configuration and scalability.

Product index hierarchy configuration

One way to improve the performance of the Inventory Visibility add-in is to create indexes for your products. You can set up an index based on a dimension or a combination of dimensions. These indexes consist of the following components:

  • Set number - Dictates the grouping for dimensions.

  • Dimension - One of the base dimensions that the query result is aggregated on.

  • Hierarchy - Allows you to specify the ordering of dimensions in a group-by query.

Scalability

Inventory Visibility is a highly scalable application. However, much of this scalability is handled without the need for users to take much action. The scalability of Inventory Visibility is near seamless and is handled by the Microsoft Power Apps team. Their scaling decisions are based on automatic detection and assessment of your transaction data volume. You can specify these limits in most of your other external services as well.

Enable real-time inventory

In omnichannel operations, the precision and efficiency of inventory visibility is paramount. Retailers seek a comprehensive perspective of inventory status across all channels, along with the capability to promptly inquire about, reserve, and update on-hand stock in real-time.

By navigating to Retail and Commerce > Headquarters setup > Parameters > Commerce shared parameters and selecting the Inventory tab, your organization will have the option to enable Inventory Visibility as the inventory data provider to serve commerce scenarios.

Once your organization has enabled Inventory Visibility, real-time access to on-hand inventory is available through the Store Commerce app, e-commerce website, or other integrated channels utilizing headless commerce APIs, real-time reservation of on-hand inventory occurs when a customer order is initiated, modified, or canceled, and real-time adjustments to on-hand inventory are made during order fulfillment or return processes.
