Exercise – Create a work breakdown structure

As the project manager for the San Diego Subscriptions Project, you need to create a work breakdown structure (WBS) for the resources and tasks to be completed.

Prerequisites

To successfully complete this exercise, make sure that you meet the following prerequisites:

  • A default working calendar with working days and working hours set up (24-hour calendar)

  • Prices set up for cost and sales price of items

  • Resources assigned to project 000185

  • Dynamics 365 Project Operations installed with the Contoso demo dataset

Steps

Follow these steps to create a WBS for the resources and tasks:

  1. Go to Project Management and Accounting > Projects > All Projects.

  2. Select Project 000184: San Diego Subscriptions.

  3. Open the Project team and scheduling FastTab.

  4. Select the Scheduling calendar field.

  5. Select 24hr calendar from the dropdown menu.

  6. Select the Plan tab.

  7. Under the Activities section, select Work breakdown structure.

  8. Select + New.

  9. On the new line, enter 000185 in the Task name column.

  10. Select Test in the Category column dropdown menu.

  11. Select Project Manager in the Role ID column.

  12. Select a resource in the Resources column.

  13. Change the Effort in hours column to 8.00.

  14. Select + New.

  15. Enter the Task name and then enter 000186.

  16. Change the Category to Journeyman.

  17. Change the Effort in hours to 10.00.

  18. Change the Role ID to Team Member.

  19. Select a resource in the Resources column.

  20. Select Publish in the Action Pane.
