First step: Create the app in Teams
To create the vocabulary app in Teams, sign in to Teams, then navigate to the apps icon on the bottom, left side of the window. Select it to open the apps screen.
In the apps search box, search for Power Apps. Select Power Apps when it appears, then choose to open it. Searching will add the Power Apps icon to the left panel.
When the Power Apps icon appears, right-click on it to pin it, making it easily accessible.
Select the icon to open Power Apps in Teams to start the creation process.
If there are any problems with these steps, be sure to check the pre-requisites listed at the beginning of this module.
The app creation process
Now it's time to create the vocabulary app. Below are the basic steps of the app creation process in Teams.
- The app is created in a basic format, named, and saved.
- A data table is created to use with the app. The data table is how the app locates and connects to the information to be displayed.
- The data table is populated with the desired data components of the app (called records).
- The app is connected to the data table (that is a quick “matching” process).
- At that point, the app is ready for previewing and sharing with the Team.
- At any point, the app may be edited and customized further.
Get started—create, name, and save the app
The first step in the process of making the vocabulary app is to create the basic app, name it, and save it.
Step 1
- Open Power Apps in Teams by selecting the icon you pinned
- Select the Start now button in the top box of the screen
Step 2
- When prompted, select the Team where the app should be placed
- Select Create
Step 3
- At the next screen that pops up, name the app “Vocabulary” or something that defines the type of word list being created. The name of the app can be changed later.
- Select Save
The next screen is the Power Apps Studio screen. This is where data sources (tables) are connected, apps are customized, and other management options are available, including saving, previewing, and publishing to Teams. It's on this screen that the next steps of the app creation process are completed.
