Set up transfers

Completed

The location transfer setup consists of two elements:

  • In-transit location setup

  • Transfer routes setup

In-transit location setup

With in-transit location setup, companies can track the quantity and value of items that are in transit at any given time after they are shipped from the source location, called a transfer-from location, until they are received at the target location, called a transfer-to location. Companies can set up as many or as few in-transit locations as they want.

Typically, the in-transit location is a truck, van, boat, or anything else that can transport the items from one location to another. In-transit locations become valuable when the process of transferring items takes longer because you can then look up the items that are in transit.

To create an in-transit location, follow these steps:

  1. Select the Search for page icon, enter locations, and then choose the related link.

  2. Select New and then fill in the Code and Name fields on the General FastTab.

  3. Select Use As In-Transit, which indicates that the location is used as an in-transit location.

Transfer routes setup

A transfer route is the combination of a transfer-from location and a transfer-to location. You can use the transfer route to validate location information when making transfer orders or entering lines in the requisition worksheet.

You can assign each transfer route a default in-transit code, shipping agent code, and shipping agent service code. The shipping time of the shipping agent service is used to calculate the receipt date at the transfer-to location.

To set up transfer routes, follow these steps:

  1. Select the Search for page icon in the upper-right corner of the page, enter transfer routes, and then select the related link.

  2. Select the ellipsis (...) action button for the combination of two locations for which you want to set up a transfer route.

  3. Enter the relevant In-Transit Code, Shipping Agent Code, and Shipping Agent Service Code.

Users can select or modify the in-transit code on a transfer order. Therefore, transfer routes are not required when you create transfer orders manually.

However, if you want to create transfer orders through the planning functionality, from the requisition worksheet or planning worksheet, transfer routes between the two locations must exist.
