Introduction
DNS enables Active Directory domain controllers, clients, and services to locate and communicate with one another. Without reliable DNS configuration, authentication, Group Policy, replication, and other core directory services can fail, making DNS essential to the stability and security of an Active Directory environment.
By the end of this module, you're able to explain how Active Directory Domain Services uses Domain Name System (DNS) for service discovery and replication; trace domain controller location through service records, LDAP UDP ping, site selection, and caching; interpret the zones and resource records that domain controllers register and use; explain directory-integrated zones, application directory partitions, secure dynamic updates, and replication convergence; evaluate configurations against a known-good baseline; and diagnose and verify recovery from DNS-related directory service failures.
