Modules in this learning path

This module explains the basics of manufacturing in Dynamics 365 Business Central. You'll discover the differences between manufacturing and assembly in Business Central and how to set up a demo company with manufacturing data.

A production bill of materials (BOM) is a list of all components that are required to produce a parent item. The list includes the description, quantity, and unit of measure of each component, in addition to other information.

To produce a product in Business Central, you'll specify what to produce and how to produce it. To specify how to produce a product, you'd use routings. A routing specifies a sequence of steps or operations that are required to produce a product.

When your production BOMs and routings are in place, you can use production orders to manage the conversion of raw materials into manufactured products. Raw materials include purchased items and subassemblies.
