Error "Windows Program Compatibility mode is on. Turn it off and then try Setup again"

Symptom

The following error appears when you attempt to install Visual Studio:

Windows Program Compatibility mode is on. Turn it off and then try Setup again.

Resolution

1. Navigate to your Downloads folder or the location where you saved the installer.
2. Right-click on the Visual Studio Installer icon.
3. Select Properties.
4. Go to the Compatibility tab.
5. Look for the Compatibility Mode section and uncheck Run this program in compatibility mode for:.
6. Restart the installation.

If the option to change the Compatibility Mode is greyed out, follow these steps:

1. Select Change settings for all users.
2. Look for the Compatibility Mode section and uncheck Run this program in compatibility mode for:.
