The steps below create a Web IQ resource in the Azure portal, connect it to the Web IQ portal to get a Web IQ App ID, and make your first call from the Playground. You complete every step in the browser, so you don't need to install any tools.
To deploy Web IQ from the command line instead, see Deploy Microsoft Web IQ with the Azure CLI.
Prerequisites
- An Azure subscription where you can create resources. You use the same subscription in every step of this guide.
- Web IQ requires a paid Azure subscription. Azure credits don't work for Web IQ.
- Sign-in access to the Azure portal with the account that owns the subscription.
Create a Web IQ resource
This step creates the Web IQ resource in your Azure subscription. The resource is what the Web IQ portal connects to in the next section, and it's where usage is billed.
- In the Azure portal, search for Microsoft Web IQ and select Create.
- Under Subscription, select the subscription you want to use for Web IQ. Double-check the subscription ID before you continue, because the Web IQ portal only shows resources from the subscription you select here.
- Under Resource group, select an existing resource group or create a new one, and then enter a Name for the Web IQ resource.
- Select the checkbox to accept the Web IQ Terms of Use.
- Select Review + create, and then select Create.
When deployment finishes, the new Web IQ resource appears in the resource group you selected.
Get a Web IQ App ID
This step signs you in to the Web IQ portal and connects it to the resource you created. The portal then issues a Web IQ App ID, which identifies your application when it calls Web IQ.
- Go to the Web IQ portal and select Get Started.
- Sign in with the account that owns the Azure subscription you used to create the resource.
- If you're asked for your tenant ID, find it in the Azure portal: search for Microsoft Entra ID, and copy the Tenant ID from the Overview page.
- Select the subscription and the Web IQ resource you created in the previous section.
- Select Finish.
The portal creates a Web IQ App ID for the resource. Confirm that it appears in the drop-down list at the top left of the page.
Make your first call
Go to the Playground in the Web IQ portal, make sure your new App ID is selected, and send a request. A successful response confirms that the resource, the subscription, and the App ID are connected correctly.
Troubleshooting
This section lists common errors you might see when you create the Web IQ resource, and how to resolve them. If a step fails, read the full error message in the Azure portal, because it usually names the exact cause and the action to take.
Validation failed when you create the resource
If Review + create shows Validation failed, open the validation details to see which setting failed, fix it, and select Review + create again. If the details say the Terms of Use weren't accepted, go back to the Basics tab and select the checkbox.
Your resource doesn't appear in the Web IQ portal
The Web IQ portal only lists resources from the subscription and tenant you sign in with. Make sure you signed in with the account that owns the subscription, and that you selected the same subscription you used to create the resource.
After deployment
Create an API key in the Web IQ portal and use it to call Web IQ from your application; see Authentication. New Web IQ resources start with a default rate limit of 15 queries per second (QPS); your current limit is shown in the Web IQ portal. Your use of Web IQ is subject to the Web IQ Terms of Use. Please review them before you begin.
