Windows Backup for Organizations policy settings

This reference article outlines the policy settings available for customizing the synchronization options used by Windows Backup for Organizations.

These settings control the options exposed in the Settings app under Account > Windows backup.

To configure the backup options, here are the policy settings you can use. The values specified in the tables are just provided as examples.

Do not sync

Prevent syncing to and from this PC. This turns off and disables the Remember my preferences switch on the Accounts > Windows backup page in Settings.

  • If you enable this policy setting, Remember my preferences is turned off, and none of the preferences are synced on this PC.
    • Use the option Allow users to turn syncing on so that syncing it turned off by default but not disabled.
  • If you don't set or disable this setting, Remember my preferences is on by default and configurable by the user.

Do not sync accessibility settings

Prevent the Accessibility group from syncing to and from this PC. This turns off and disables the Accessibility option on the Accounts > Windows backup page in Settings.

  • If you enable this policy setting, the Accessibility group is not synced on this PC.
    • Use the option Allow users to turn accessibility syncing on so that syncing it turned off by default but not disabled.
  • If you don't set or disable this setting, syncing of the Accessibility group is on by default and configurable by the user.

Do not sync apps

Prevent the Apps group from syncing to and from this PC. This turns off and disables the Remember my apps option on the Accounts > Windows backup page in Settings.

  • If you enable this policy setting, the Apps group isn't synced on this PC.
    • Use the option Allow users to turn app syncing on so that syncing it turned off by default but not disabled.
  • If you don't set or disable this setting, syncing of the Apps group is on by default and configurable by the user.

Note

Enabling this policy does not disable the option to restore backups that were already created.

Don't sync passwords

Prevent the Accounts, WiFi networks and passwords group from syncing to and from this PC. This turns off and disables the Accounts, WiFi networks and passwords option on the Accounts > Windows backup page in Settings.

  • If you enable this policy setting, the Accounts, WiFi networks and passwords group isn't synced on this PC.
    • Use the option Allow users to turn "password" syncing on so that syncing it turned off by default but not disabled.
  • If you don't set or disable this setting, syncing of the Accounts, WiFi networks and passwords group is on by default and configurable by the user.

Don't sync personalize

Prevent the Personalization group from syncing to and from this PC. This turns off and disables the Personalization option on the Accounts > Windows backup page in Settings.

  • If you enable this policy setting, the Personalization group isn't synced on this PC.
    • Use the option Allow users to turn "personalize" syncing on so that syncing it turned off by default but not disabled.
  • If you don't set or disable this setting, Personalization is on by default and configurable by the user.

Do not sync language preferences settings

Prevent the Language preferences and dictionary group from syncing to and from this PC. This turns off and disables the Language preferences and dictionary option on the Accounts > Windows backup page in Settings.

  • If you enable this policy setting, the Language preferences and dictionary group is not synced on this PC.
    • Use the option Allow users to turn language preferences syncing on so that syncing it turned off by default but not disabled.
  • If you don't set or disable this setting, syncing of the Language preferences and dictionary group is on by default and configurable by the user.

Do not sync other Windows settings

Prevent the Other Windows settings group from syncing to and from this PC. This turns off and disables the Other Windows settings option on the Accounts > Windows backup page in Settings.

  • If you enable this policy setting, the Other Windows settings group is not synced on this PC.
    • Use the option Allow users to turn on "other Windows settings" syncing on so that syncing it turned off by default but not disabled.
  • If you don't set or disable this setting, syncing of the Other Windows settings group is on by default and configurable by the user.
