After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, you might encounter issues with some Ubisoft games. These games might become unresponsive while starting, loading or during active gameplay. In some cases, users might receive a black screen.
To safeguard your Windows update experience, we have applied a compatibility hold on devices with these games installed. These devices will not be offered to install Windows 11, version 24H2 via the Windows Update release channel. IT administrators using Windows Update for Business reports can check these issues using the following safeguard IDs: 54580160 and 54437462.
Resolution:
The following games are no longer affected by this issue. Details are below:
- Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora are no longer affected by this issue due to temporary hotfixes deployed by Ubisoft. While these fixes mitigate the crashes, players might still experience some performance issues. For more details, see the release notes for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora – Title Update 1.2 and Star Wars Outlaws – Title Update 1.4.0. The safeguard hold (ID 54580160) that was previously in place for these two games has been lifted as of December 5, 2024.
- Assassin’s Creed: Origins, and Valhalla are no longer affected by this issue due to fixes deployed by Ubisoft. These updates have resolved the compatibility issues with Windows 11, version 24H2, ensuring that players can now enjoy these games without previous disruptions. The safeguard hold (ID 54437462) that was previously in place has been lifted as of January 16, 2025 to exclude these games.
- After investigation, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey was determined to not be affected by the same compatibility issue as Assassin’s Creed Origins, and Valhalla after further investigation. No fix was required for this title, and it was included in the safeguard (ID 54437462) as a precaution based on initial reports.
Note that it may take up to 48 hours for the Windows 11, version 24H2 update to be offered via Windows Update for devices with these games. Restarting your device might expedite the process.
Important: We recommend that you do not attempt to manually update to version 24H2 using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or the media creation tool until this issue has been resolved.
