I am very interested in the "Resilient File System" (ReFS) and, to my surprise, found that after I reconfigured the "D:" drive on one of my computers to use ReFS instead of NTFS, "Microsoft OneDrive" would not allow me to use the "D:" drive. I received the following error message, which I typed from the attached screenshot.
Error message dialog box's title bar: Microsoft OneDrive
Error message dialog box's body:
D:\ must be formatted with the NTFS file
system to work with OneDrive
OneDrive must be on a drive that is using the NTFS
filesystem. To have OneDrive use a different location,
click "Set up OneDrive" and point OneDrive to a NTFS
drive. To use D:\ with OneDrive, you need to format it
with NTFS and then click "Try again" to configure your
account.
Error message dialog box's buttons: "Try again" and "Set up OneDrive"
Note that clicking on the error message dialog box's "Set up OneDrive" button had no apparent effect.
I have the following comments about the error message dialog box's body's message.

  • The message has redundant information in the "NTFS file system" and "NTFS filesystem" phrases, which is similar to mentioning an "ATM machine" (redundant).
  • The message includes "filesystem" in one location, which is inconsistent with other parts of the message, which always use "file system" (as two separate words).
  • The second sentence has a couple of minor errors: (1) It should have a comma before the word and; and, (2) it should use the word "an" instead of "a" before "NTFS" (which I pronounce as "en tee ef es").

The following revised message includes corrections for my preceding observations.
BEGIN REVISED MESSAGE
D:\ must be formatted with the NTFS ("New Technology File System") to work with OneDrive.
OneDrive must be on a drive that is using the NTFS. To have OneDrive use a different location, click "Set up OneDrive," and point OneDrive to a directory which uses the NTFS. To use D:\ with OneDrive, you need to format it with NTFS and then click "Try again" to configure your account.
END REVISED MESSAGE

MY QUESTIONS

  • When will Microsoft modify "Microsoft OneDrive" to work with the "Resilient File System" (ReFS)?

If "Microsoft OneDrive" supports ReFS, then the following two questions should become irrelevant, because the error message dialog box should be obsolete and no longer exist.

  • Will Microsoft consider using the preceding, revised message?
  • Will Microsoft investigate the apparent bug with the aforementioned "Set up OneDrive" button?

    Hi @Jay Schmoll ,

    Actually, we don't know.

OneDrive must be on a drive that is using the NTFS filesystem.

Microsoft did not explain why OneDrive no longer supports non-NTFS file systems.

    You could give a feedback.

    Hi @Jay Schmoll

Since your questions are related to OneDrive features development, it's recommended to refer to TKujala's suggestions, please subimt your requests to Microsoft Feedback Forum.

But for a variety of reasons we cannot discuss planned features, their priorities, or the dates that we expect these features to be released.

    Thanks for your understandings.
