Hi,

I received a mail from Microsoft stating that "Community support for Start/Stop Virtual Machines during off-hours is ending on 30 September 2023." and i need to migrate to Start/Stop V2, which is generally available.

If i do not migrate will the Start/stop service stop. How do i check whether im using the old start/stop version on any of my virtual machines also if i am using the old version how do i migrate it to V2. can you please provide step by step guide.

Hello Zahid Makandar - TSS Consultancy

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Platform, thanks for posting your query here.

Firstly, to answer your question, if you do not migrate to Start/Stop VMs v2, the Start/Stop service will not stop. However, you will no longer receive community support for the old version after September 30, 2023. Therefore, it is recommended that you migrate to Start/Stop VMs v2 before that date.

To check whether you are using the old version of Start/Stop VMs on any of your virtual machines, you can follow these steps:

    1. Go to the Azure portal and navigate to the virtual machine that you want to check.
    2. In the left-hand menu, click on "Automation script".
    3. In the "Automation script" blade, search for "Microsoft.Automation/automationAccounts" and check if there is a resource with the name "StartStop_VM".
    4. If there is a resource with the name "StartStop_VM", then you are using the old version of Start/Stop VMs.

To migrate to Start/Stop VMs v2, you can follow the steps outlined in the "Deploy Start/Stop VMs v2 to an Azure subscription" article (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-functions/start-stop-vms/deploy)

After the deployment is complete, you can configure the schedules to customize it to your requirements.

    I hope this helps!
