Is there a method in Office.js which can be called from web browser to open a new word (blank) document or existing document in server to word desktop?

Hi, We have several web applications running on a private server. Our users can view word documents uploaded in the server but cannot edit them. we have add-ins where we can get the documents from the server and it works like a charm. However, we also want to add a functionality in our web applications where user can select to edit a document in word desktop and it will directly open the document on desktop. Is there a method in office js apis to call such function which will trigger word opening on desktop.
