Hello, I’m currently editing scans of a travel journal using Microsoft Photos. I’m splitting them in half. Unfortunately, instead of choosing ‘Save a copy’ for the left page, I accidentally clicked ‘Save.’ Now I’m afraid the right page is lost forever. Ctrl+Z didn’t work, and Copilot’s help hasn’t been useful so far.

    Hello Colin

    Can you try these steps:

Don't worry, I'm here to help you explore other options to recover the lost page. Since you accidentally saved the left page instead of creating a copy, we'll focus on finding alternative methods to restore the right page.

    Before we begin:

    1. Make sure you have checked the "Recently Deleted" folder in Microsoft Photos. Sometimes, deleted files are moved to this folder instead of being permanently deleted.
    2. If you have any backups or cloud storage services like OneDrive, Google Drive, or iCloud, check if the original scan is still present there.

Option 1: Check the Recycle Bin

If you haven't already, check the Recycle Bin on your computer to see if the right page was moved there. If it's still present, you can restore it and then work on reassembling your split scan.

Option 2: Use Photo Recovery Software

There are various photo recovery software programs available that can help recover deleted files, including Microsoft Photos files. Some popular options include:

    • EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard
    • Recuva
    • Disk DrillDon't worry, I'm here to help you explore other options to recover the lost page. Since you accidentally saved the left page instead of creating a copy, we'll focus on finding alternative methods to restore the right page. Before we begin:

    Hi colin,

Thanks for your post. Based on my research, Windows Essentials 2012 contains the following programs:

    Photo Gallery

    Movie Maker

    Windows Live Writer

    Windows Live Mail

    OneDrive

Do you have Photo Gallery of Windows Essentials or Photos App of Windows 10 operating system?

If you have Photo Gallery, here's how to revert to original image:

    • Bring up the picture you wish to restore or change.
    • Look at the ribbon menu selection across the top.
    • At the far right is: "Revert to original"
    • If you have the original, selecting "Revert to original" will restore it.
    • "Settings" under "Revert to original" will tell you how long the original image is kept.

    Best Regards,

    Ian Xue
