We can't test-migrate a 2012R2 VM to Azure with the following error while preparing for test migration.

  • Error ID 666
  • Error Message The hydration operation completed with an error: 'a873344e-24b8-4d0a-a771-1b4df5edbf99: Necessary VMBus registry settings are missing on the VM which may cause boot failure.' and user error message: 'None.'. Some features of an Azure VM environment may not work ideally.
  • Possible causes An internal error occured while patching the VM for Azure.

The machine boots in the rescue environment. I also checked the basic error messages and BCD fixes; none worked.

Does anyone knows what registry items are missing? It's a really vague error.
