Windows 10 Restoring to Previous Version Loop

Yeah hi super thrilled with your new update. It creates a loop that never fixes itself, this is the third time I have had to fix one of your unnecessary Windows 10 updates and this time I can't solve it on my own. I've looked at your threads so don't give me your typical unhelpful answer of downloading the installation media, because that doesn't work, I also don't have a backup image to use. So when I click on the repair startup option, it tries to diagnose it and then fails and says to restart it instead, but the only option is to shut my computer down. Nothing else works, you broke my computer and I am absolutely livid with your unhelpful response and ineptitude of releasing a working Windows 10 update. I have also noticed that thousands of people have had the same problem, so I don't understand why you force this update if it doesn't even work properly. My next best option seems to be buying a new computer, and you can bet your life savings I won't be buying a Microsoft product if this is how we are treated.

Yeah Super Kind Regards,

Have almost the same problem. Have spent many hours and hours trying to salvage

data and program installations without any success.

I should be tempted to say I find it beyond credible that this has happened. I didn't ask for the update, didn't need it, but W10 decided to update anyway and now the system is stuck in an infinite loop that boots, says it's trying to recover a previous version, trying to restore and then boots again, ad infinitum, ad nauseum.

I have tried with an ISO image; the "tools" supplied with the ISO image are useless. Think about that for a moment Microsoft: the "tools" you supply are useless. By definition, "tool" is a requisite intended to facilitate a desired outcome. However, your "tools" can neither fix the installation nor aid in any other way, except by offering to install a completely new version of W10, losing existing data and software in the process. Needless to say, I am still reluctant to take that step.

W10 is hyped as a service, Another misnoma: perhaps a "disservice" would be more honest and apt.

I should be tempted to say I find it beyond credible that this has happened. But after all this has been the Microsoft way for the past 33 years. Little Wonder that Bill became a somewhat philanthropist in later years; the karmic pressure must have been intolerable.

So ultimately the question to you is: apart from the useless stream of excuses and "tools", is there a solution to your problem that does not involve loss of data and s/w installations?

    Hi Parker,

We know that what you're experiencing can be really frustrating. Let us help you. Since you're stuck in a loop when you boot your computer, we recommend that you boot it in safe mode through the Windows 10 Repair Environment. To do so, kindly follow these steps:

    1. Start your system.
    2. After your computer shows its original equipment manufacturer's logo, perform a hard shut down by pressing and holding the power button until your computer shuts down.
    3. Repeat steps 1 and 2.
    4. Start your system again. This time, Windows will boot into the Windows 10 Repair Environment.
    5. Select Troubleshoot.
    6. Click on Advanced Options.
    7. Select Startup Settings, then click restart.
    8. When your computer restarts, press the corresponding key for Safe Mode with Networking to boot your computer in safe mode.

Once you're able to boot into safe mode, kindly run the System File Checker tool and the Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool. The System File Checker tooland the Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool check if there are corrupted system files on your computer. If the System File Checker tool detects incorrect, corrupted, or damaged system files, it replaces them with the correct file versions. If it cannot repair the issue, the Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool will try to fix as many errors as possible. To run the said tools, kindly follow the steps in this article: System file check (SFC) Scan and Repair System Files & DISM to fix things SFC cannot. Remember to thoroughly read the instructions.

If the issue still persists after that, we recommend that you perform an in-place upgrade on your computer while you're still in safe mode with networking. To do so, follow the steps in this forum article: How to perform an In-place Upgrade with Windows 10 Step-by-Step Guide. An in-place upgrade will let you repair your operating system, while letting you keep your personal files, apps, and settings too.

If the in-place upgrade fails to resolve the issue, this is the time that you need to perform a custom installation of Windows 10 on your computer. We know that you don't want to create an installation media, but it's necessary for this procedure. To perform it on your computer, kindly follow the steps in this forum article: How to: Perform a Custom Installation of Windows. That forum article also includes instructions on how you can recover your personal files and other data after the custom installation of Windows 10. Remember to read the instructions thoroughly.

Kindly get back to us once you've tried all of the steps that we have provided.

Hey so I sort of "fixed" my issue (my comp got reset so yippee), I had to download that installation media onto a flash drive, but that didn't work, so I re-downloaded that installation media from another device (ex. I downloaded it from our family computer, then deleted it and used my personal laptop to download it again). Here is a link to that may be of some use (https://mix.office.com/watch/1dbgpfktgysig). For some weird reason this worked and gave me new options which allowed me to re-install windows 10 (yahoo). If this works for you make sure you download the correct windows 10 version (DO NOT DOWNLOAD WINDOWS 10 S, it is a scam, you cannot download anything that is outside of the Microsoft app store aka. Google Chrome, Steam, VLC etc. unless you wanna pay $200+ to upgrade). Once you have hard re-installed Windows 10, all of your old files will be put into a folder called OldWindows or something like that, so you shouldn't lose anything. Another link to show better step-wise instructions (https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-windows_install/how-to-clean-install-windows-10-on-a-pc-step-by/854fd140-385f-452c-ad52-548f2acb0d0a). Hopefully this works for all of you. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm on a 24/7 Windows 10 smear campaign because this is absolutely ridiculous.

now I think I know why the update crashed

HP 3D DriveGuard - after reinstalling and downloading the last driver from HP site, it says that this version is not compatible with this version of windows

good job MS for forcing to install something that will crash

It still looks that W10 is in beta version
