Xbox controller buttons not doing as expected

Not sure if this topic has been covered already so sorry in advance.

I have an Xbox Elite controller series 2 that I use with my PC for certain games. When playing a game, lets use Forza Horizon 5 for an example, all of the in game controls work as expected, however, whenever the A button is pressed, it brings up the Xbox game bar. And whenever the B button is pressed, it takes a screenshot. I'm pretty sure there are other buttons doing things they're not supposed to but they are the only 2 that I can think of. These happen both inside and outside of games, even when just on the desktop.

I've tried looking into settings on Steam and on the Xbox game bar to try and remap the controls, but I can't seem to find anything that would be causing the controller to be doing those things in the first place.

I would greatly appreciate any help on this as it is really infuriating to be trying to play a game with these things happening

    Hi Galen,

    I'm Amr, an independent advisor.

It sounds like you're experiencing some issues with your Xbox Elite Controller Series 2 on your PC.

Here are a few steps you try to resolve the issue:

    1. Update Controller Firmware

Make sure your controller's firmware is up to date.

You can do this by connecting your controller to your Xbox console or a Windows PC, and then going to the Xbox Accessories app to check for updates.

    1. Check Game Bar Settings

Go to Windows Settings > Gaming > Xbox Game Bar.

Make sure the shortcuts you mentioned aren't set to the A and B buttons on your controller.

    1. Check Steam Big Picture Mode

Open Steam and go to Big Picture Mode. From there, go to Settings > Controller Settings. Make sure Xbox Configuration Support is checked.

Then, go to Base Configurations > Desktop Configuration > Browse Configs > Templates and select Gamepad.

This should reset the controller's configuration for use outside of games.

    1. Reinstall Controller Drivers

Go to Device Manager on your PC, find your controller under "Human Interface Devices" or "Xbox Peripherals", right-click it, and select "Uninstall device".

Then, disconnect and reconnect your controller, which should prompt Windows to reinstall the drivers.

    1. Reset the Controller

If all else fails, you might want to try resetting your controller. You can do this by pressing the sync button (on the top of the controller) until the Xbox button blinks rapidly.

This will reset your controller's connection and might solve the issue.

I hope this is helpful. If you require any additional assistance, don't hesitate to respond to this.
