I had windows on my old computer, I upgraded most of my parts and had ensured that Windows is activated with a digital license linked to your Microsoft account, so I thought all I had to do was log in with my account and I could easily transfer windows to this new computer. What did I miss?

Hi David. I'm Greg, here to help you with this.

If you change the motherboard then you need to transfer the Digital License using the Activation Troubleshooter while signed into the same MS Account on the new hardware . The exact procedure is explained here:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/rea...

If that doesn't work then since it's showing in the slmgr output as a retail license which can move wherever you want, you'd need to contact Microsoft Support at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/home/contac...

Explain the problem to the Virtual Assistant and keep asking for an agent, to get chat or a call back on week days.

Support will ask for the retail Product Key so you should have that handy. If you don't have it any longer then you can try to read it by running ProducKey: https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/product_cd_key_vi..., and it should be the 25-character Product key which is NOT the OEM-BIOS key or the Generic Version Key for Home Version which is YTMG3-N6DKC-DKB77-7M9GH-8HVX7.

Feel free to ask back any questions. Based on the detailed results you post back, I will have other suggestions if necessary.
