  1. https://myaccount.microsoft.com

the option of "additional security verification" is missing ;

  1. https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info

in "add method", the option of "app password" is missing ;

  1. in portal.azure.com

under "azure active directory" > "users" > "per-user MFA"

for the related user accounts, the column "MULTI-FACTOR AUTH STATUS" is showing "enforced" ;

Hi jimz_yucolab,

Thank you for your reply.

i have double checked your replies, you mentioned disabling the MFA, but you did say if you enabled it again.

because as mentioned in my first reply, you need to disable and enable again. and double check.

for the conditional access, you will find the information here. it is a very useful feature for admins Azure AD Conditional Access documentation | Microsoft Docs

I have checked if it was related to the subscription, but it is not.

Please check the setting again and let me know.

you can see from this article that the only requirement is that MFA should be enable

Configure app passwords for Azure AD Multi-Factor Authentication - Azure Active Directory | Microsoft Docs

I will be waiting for your feedback.

Kind regards,

Mac

    hi Mac,

    just followed closely according to your advice above, but the result are the same.

    i tried disabled the MFA for my own account, wait for 5+ mins, went to "https://myaccount.microsoft.com/" > "security info", but the option of "app password" is still missing.

    i also tried creating another temp account as admin, use that account to disable MFA and "delete all existing app password" on my own account, and repeat the above procedures, the result is the same.

    do you think i have missed any config in Azure ?

    Hi jimz_yucolab,

    Thank you for your reply.

    what I did:

    login to azure AD admin center > users > per user MFA> select the users. if the MFA was enable, please disable it > Manage user settings> click on delete all existing app passwords> save.

    wait for some time and enable the MFA again. and within 5min you can check for the changes.

    I mentioned doing it directly from Azure AD because MFA can also be enabled from the M365 admin center.

    Please let me know your findings.

    King regards,

    Mac

    hi Mac,

    thanks for the advice, i have just disabled MFA for that user.

    and when waiting for it to take effect, would you mind to show me the "proper way" to "have the MFA enable directly from azure AD" ?

    Hi jimz_yucolab,

    Greetings.

    Thank you for raising your concern in this community.

    Have done a quick test for this situation. Normally the requirement to have the app password set up is to have the MFA enable directly from azure AD.

    In the first image, the MFA was not enable, and after enabling it I could see the app password in the second image.

    So what I can suggest you to do, is to first disable MFA for the user and wait for some time after what you enable it again. And check the situation. Please keep in mind that it can take some time to take effect.

    Please let me know your findings.

    Kind regards,

    Mac
