need help with Word

I want to add footnotes but I don't have "references' on my ribbon along with insert, draw, home, etc

    What version of Office did you use? Did this problem only appear in Word? How about other Office products? Please go to File- Options- Customize Ribbon- make sure all Tabs are checked as shown in the following picture:

    What do you see on the ribbon? If you are using the online version (Word for the Web), note that it lacks support of most of the functionality that you have access to in a full version installed on a Windows or Mac computer.
