My home computer crashed (overheating problem) and I cannot access the operating system and boot up to Windows. Question is: Can I recover files saved on desktop using my work computer, knowing that I am always logged on to my Microsoft 365 account when I use Word in both computer? Unfortunately I did save the word documents on OneDrive when I was using the desktop (home) computer. So, Does Microsoft Word keep an online backup copy even if files are saved on computer rather than on the cloud?

    Hi Moez Lamti,

I am afraid you need to find someone professional to help you access files on home computer, if there is no problem with the hard disk, just the operating system crashes.

Unless you set the OneDrive sync folder on your computer as AutoRecover file location, which is an option in Word > File > Save, Word would not create related temporary files online.

Besides, to make an online backup copy, you need to go to File > Option > Advanced > Save, check the box of "Always create backup copy" first, then save files in OneDrive sync folder and modify the files. Then a backup file of .wbk format will be generated on the same storage location, they would be synced to OneDrive cloud when OneDrive is working normally.
