SSRS 2014 SMTP settings

My server has been emailing reports from SQL fine but changes to O365 seem to have caused it to stop accepting mail without authentication via username and password. SSRS 2014 does not have settings for this in the Configuration Manager and the instructions for the configuration file are a contradictory mass of confusion. I've literally spent two days trying to get this to work and am no further forward. I use Mimecast to filter all in and outbound mail and my other smtp-enabled services (scanners, copiers, intranet, web forms etc.) can all connect to it fine with username, password, host and port etc. but not SSRS. I have set up smtp on my SQL box and it can happily forward test mail to the outside world, but SSRS can't seem to get mail to it, even when I follow the instructions to drop it directly in the mailroot folder. I can't find anywhere on the web a definitive set of instructions on how to edit the config file with settings for either a) username, password, host and port for an external smtp handler or b) how to drop mail in the pickup directory such that the local smtp server can route it onwards This doesn't seem to me to be an elaborate setup; what am I missing?

    I could not fully understand your meaning.

    Could you please show your e-mail setting in SSRS configuration manager like the image shown below.

    You said that "stop accepting mail without authentication via username and password". Do you mean that when you are using SSRS e-mail subscription, you couldn't get the e-mail sent from the SMTP server?

    Could you please describe your issue with more details.(screenshot is welcome)

    You could not send e-mail or get e-mail?

    In addition,there is no user name and password setting with SSRS2014, you could find it in SSRS2016 and later version.
