Those of you who have developed smart client applications using Composite User Interface Application Block (http://msdn.microsoft.com/practices/default.aspx?pull=/library/en-us/dnpag2/html/cab.asp) will likely agree that the biggest downside to CAB was the ramp up time.
Microsoft Patterns & Practices team has recently released Smart Client Software Factory – GAX based projects that simplify development of smart client applications based on the architecture of the Composite User Interface Application Block. This should not only significantly decrease the CAB learning time, but also increase the code quality and consistency.
For more information on GAX (Guidance Automation Extensions in Visual Studio 2005), check out my previous post -- SYSK 155. More information on Smart Client Factory is available at http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnpag2/html/scsflp.asp.
