This week's schedule
- Tue: 40min steady run - done in the gym and deadly boring
- Wed: 30min Fartlek - again in the gym. Very tough using random profile on treadmill
- Fri: 30min easy run - out and about. Should have been easy but 4 runs a week takes it out of you
- Sun: 80-90min long run - round Windsor Great Park. Gorgeous for running. This is the furthest I've ever run. It was hard, but not as bad as I expected.
Starting to get used to the routine of 4 runs per week but it does mean organising your life around running - something I'm not used to. And it does take it out of you. As well as regular aching legs your body craves more sleep (I've not slept so well in a long time but the 6.30am alarm call is an unwelcome visitor) and I managed to pull a muscle in my chest this week as well. Weight has now dropped (not exactly dramatically) from about 107kg (16st 11lb) to just under 105kg (16st 7lbs). It makes a difference though as the running gets easier both through fitness and weight loss so it's a double whammy.
The long runs at the weekend are tough. Getting out of the car at 9am in Windsor Great Park this morning in freezing cold conditions with a biting wind and driving rain was not much fun. Toughing it out for the first 10mins or so, with hands freezing around the drinks bottle, the sight of the sun peeking out from behind the clouds and a blue sky heading our way was enough to make me almost start enjoying it. This was the furthest distance I've ever run (and I'll be able to say that every week from now on as distances just keep getting longer in the build up to the final training run of around 20 miles).
