Key metrics
The following sections describe each metric in the Citation dashboard.
Page citations
Page citations show the total number of times pages from your site were referenced in AI-generated answers during the selected period. Use this metric to identify which content is consistently cited and which themes or formats perform well.
Share of authority
Share of authority represents the percentage of total citations attributed to your domain, calculated as your citations divided by total citations from all domains.
The calculation is applied at a daily level. If your domain is cited for a query on a given day, all citation instances for that query on that day are included; if not, that day is excluded. As a result, this approach focuses on active participation and may lead to higher Share of authority values compared to broader calculations.
A higher share indicates a stronger presence in AI-generated answers, while a lower share highlights opportunities to improve competitiveness for key topics.
Branded and non-branded queries Share of Authority
Share of Authority is also available separately for branded and non-branded queries, helping you understand whether your visibility is driven primarily by existing brand recognition or by broader topical authority.
Branded Queries Share of Authority
Branded Share of Authority represents the percentage of total citations attributed to your domain for branded queries.
It is calculated as:
Your domain's citations for branded queries ÷ Total citations from all domains for branded queries × 100
A higher value indicates a stronger presence in AI-generated answers when users search for information directly related to your brand, products, or services.
Non-branded queries Share of Authority
Non-branded Share of Authority represents the percentage of total citations attributed to your domain for non-branded queries.
It is calculated as:
Your domain's citations for non-branded queries ÷ Total citations from all domains for non-branded queries × 100
A higher value indicates a stronger ability to earn citations for broader topic-focused queries where users are not explicitly searching for your brand.
AI referral traffic
AI referral traffic shows the percentage of sessions on your site that arrived from AI assistants, calculated as AI-referred sessions divided by the total number of sessions for the selected time period.
Query topics
The Query topics card uses AI and large language models (LLMs) to automatically analyze, and group related citation queries into meaningful topics. Rather than relying on a predefined category list, Topics are generated specifically from the citation queries associated with your domain, helping surface themes of AI systems most frequently associated with your content. This allows you to quickly understand what subjects your site is earning visibility and authority for, discover emerging content areas, and move from a high-level topic directly to the underlying queries driving performance.
Each topic includes metrics such as citation count and SoA, making it easier to identify the themes that contribute most to your AI visibility. By organizing large volumes of citation data into a smaller set of understandable topics, AI Visibility helps you focus on the content areas that matter most to your business and content strategy
Queries
The Grounding queries table displays the queries that AI systems used to retrieve your content before generating an answer. These queries may differ from the exact phrases users type, but they provide insight into how AI systems discover and map your content. Understanding these queries helps you align your content with the way AI systems structure and retrieve information.
Queries are classified into the following categories:
Branded queries
Branded queries are cited queries that mention your brand, products, services, or other brand-specific terms. These queries indicate situations where AI systems associated the user's intent directly with your brand and cited your content as part of the generated answer.
Tracking branded queries helps you understand how often your brand is represented in AI-generated answers when users are seeking brand-specific information.
Non-branded queries
Non-branded queries are cited queries that do not mention your brand but are related to topics, products, services, or information covered by your content. These queries indicate broader discovery opportunities where AI systems selected your content as a relevant source despite the absence of a direct brand reference.
Tracking non-branded queries helps you measure your ability to earn visibility through topical authority rather than brand recognition alone.
Note
In the Queries card, branded queries are visually highlighted to help you quickly distinguish them from non-branded queries. Expanding the card reveals a dedicated Brand Classification column that labels each query as Branded or Non-branded.
My cited pages
The My cited pages table lists the pages from your domain that were referenced in AI-generated answers, along with their citation counts and associated queries. Use this view to identify high-performing pages to expand and pages that may require improvements in structure, clarity, or coverage to increase their likelihood of being cited.
