Sql Server and the new Daylight Savings Time changes
Q: Given the forthcoming updates to Daylight Savings Time to comply with the Energy Policy Act of 2005, it will be necessary for me to update my Windows Operating Systems with the appropriate patches. Are there additional Sql Server specific updates that need to be made to servers that have Sql Server (any version/edition) running on them as well?
A: No. At this time there are no additional Sql Server specific updates that are required to support the changes to DST. Sql Server relies on the underlying Operating System for time related data, which means if the OS is reporting the appropriate dates/times, Sql Server will simply report/use the same values. To comply with the upcoming changes to DST, you will be required to update you base Windows Operating Systems as outlined in the following KB: https://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=928388. This update will be required on all Windows Operating Systems to support/comply with the DST changes, including those running Sql Server.
