Seeing AMD Dual Core TV Glitching

We were internally. That's where I've been the last few weeks (aside from the holiday). I'm helping our sustained engineering team with figuring out issues on Update Rollup 2. So far we've solved a bunch of problems and sadly most were not even related to Update Rollup 2 directly. Not your problem, I know, but after spending time working on a project and then having issues sure takes the wind out of the sails. Anyway...

We've been hearing about TV glitching on dual core AMD machines from various folks. Problem is actually on the AMD side and is mostly likely related to the Hardware Abstraction Layer.

Here’s what you do if you see glitching on an AMD Dual Core proc.

Install the update for the processor on this page: https://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_13118,00.html specifically the dual core processor driver, https://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/utilities/amdcpu.exe

So far I’ve be running live TV for over a day with no issues.

Do you know if this problem only occurs when AMD's Cool & Quiet feature is enabled? This is the feature that allows the CPU to vary its clock speed based on load. I know that similar lag issues have been reported on X2's when playing games only when CnQ is enabled, and disabling it fixes things without the need for the updated processor driver.

    TIA,

Yes. This is an issue as well. We've done a bit more work and it looks like disabling this feature can also help.

What if the update doesn't help?

I've been trying for the past two days to uncover this issue. Download Rollup 2, Rollup 2 hotfix, NVIDIA Decoder, disabled C&Q, and installed the dual core patch. I've also tried setting affinity to CPU0 for media center with no luck.

    AMD 64 X2 3800+
2 gb ram 1T command rate
    GForce 6600GT with latest driver.
PowerColor Theater 550 Pro with latest ATI driver
    VBOX 150

I've been searching google and win xp media center forums with no luck. Any suggestions would be great.

Disregard my post, after installing the dual core driver it did work. My new recordings worked fine.

    I have an AMD 64 X2 4200
    NVidia GeForce 6100
    Theater Pro 550

I just installed the driver listed above, and have seen slight (certainly not as bad, but not perfect) glitching while watching live TV. I could certainly live with this, but think it could be better.

I do not know how to disable C&Q on my machine...if someone could tell me how to do that, I think it may fix my problem...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
