LYNC 2013 desktop sharing shows blank screen

 

Looking into Event Viewer ‘Microsoft Office Alerts’ the following event was being generated every time problem was reproduced:

Microsoft Lync

CLSID: {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000} CATID: {9B179D6E-9BDB-454b-BE3D-89F9A792BD39} The ActiveX Compatibility setting disabled loading this object to help protect your security.

Take  note of CLSID identifier above and open registry editor:

 

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000} (if using LYNC 2013 32 bits on Windows 8 64 bits)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000} (if running LYNC 2013 64 bits or running LYNC 2013 32 bits on Windows 8 32 bits)

 

You can remove this entry or change Compatibility Flags as described on the following KB articles:

    Hi, I have the same problem and the same error in the event viewer, but I don't have these keys in the registry. I run Lync 2013 32-bit on Windows 8 64-bit. Any other ideas for how solve this?

    Thanks a lot, This Solution worked for me.  After upgrading from Lync 2010 to Lync 2013, I  was not able to view presentations, only white screen appeared..   Deletion of the above 2 registry keys helped resolve...

    Hi - I had the key in the registry, but didn't have the event viewer entry (just the opposite of Mikael).  I deleted the registry key and it worked for me.

    Thank you. It worked for me on Win7 and Lync 2013. I didn't have an error in the event viewer, but I have the key in the registry. I edited the registry key and issue was solved.

    We had the same problem here for any systems with Internet Explore as the default browser. If Firefox was the default then even with the Lync client running, clicking on the "Join Lync Meeting" option caused Firefox to open, we logged in to the meeting and all worked AOK. But with IE as the default we got nothing but a blank screen when trying to view a shared desktop. Looking in the Office logs I found the errors mentioned in the article. Deleting the settings mentioned in the article seems to have solved our problem.

    A BIG thanks to Joao for posting the fix.

    Of course you can just make Firefox your default and be done with it, my recommendation, but if you have to use IE then removing those registry setting seems to do the trick.

    We are running Win 7 x64 and x86 Ent with Office 2010 pro and Lync 2013 client.

    Our systems team worked on this for 3 days and finally decided that the only way to resolve the issue was to reload OS. I stayed on Lync 2010 for 3 years because that was not viable option for my. When I upgraded to Office 365 & finally got tired of being lazy about it and looked it up - your solution was the very first I came across and it worked perfectly. THANKS!

    I am running Windows 10 Enterprise and Skype for Business 2015 Part of the Office 365 ProPlus. When i try to share my screen, it shows black for the other end. Please advise.
