How SharePoint Locates the Configuration Database

Well, I guess I never really thought about this much until I had to (long story).  SharePoint actually stores the connection to the configuration database in the registry.  Makes pretty good sense considering I’ve never seen it in a config file anywhere.

  • HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\12.0\Secure\ConfigDB
