RC of MSDNWiki available

Today, we announced the broad customer availability of the Community Content feature for the Visual Studio 2005 documentation and the .NET 3.0 Class Library on MSDN Online.

The Community Content feature allows our community of developers worldwide to extend the official online documentation by adding tips, notes, code examples, and other information alongside the over 300,000 topics covered by this RC0. Because the community content is placed in a WIKI environment, developers can edit existing content blocks and add new ones.

Only some of the topics in the MSDN Library are currently enabled for Community Content - they will be tagged as such with a "Community Content" icon.  Many other Microsoft developer content sets will add the feature over the next few weeks and months.

Although this release only covers English content, localized versions in French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Traditional Chinese are scheduled for broad customer availability in February 2007.

    Soma: Great to hear about this. What about  wiki's on Non .NET stuff. For eg. i have to use API RegQueryValueEx()  for a REG_BINARY type and there is no nice example in MSDN. I wish some one might have already spent time in using that API and sharing it.. As far as i know there are still lots of Unmanaged developers, please make their lives easier :)

    These microsoft blogs are realy the saddest things I've come across in a long while. Is this the source of my information now? I'm not interested in the 'thoughts' of everyone working at this company. Just supply your info in a professional, structured and accessible way and don't make me wrestle through your incoherent ramblings just because you work at microsoft.

    Hi Rolf, These blogs hopefully get you a chance to interact with people working in the teams as well as get some "personal" commentary along with the information. There are other sources of "structured" information that are available if that is what you are interested in.

    Well, Rolf, I don't understand you. Reading these blogs you have the fresh news firsthand and immediately. More than that, you can interact with the people that brought to life the new features. Look at Anand's post above, it's a good example of this interaction. BTW It's not difficult to distinguish from personal and technical articles. If you want structured information you can select other sources and wait more time to have the news, just that.

    the error is An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.  When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
