Exchange 2010 UM server: Event ID 1079 VOIP platform encountered and exception Microsoft.Exchange.Data.StoragePermanentException:The process failed to get the correct properties

Recently I saw an issue at a customer where the Exchange servers were throwing "Event ID 1079 VOIP platform encountered and exception Microsoft.Exchange.Data.StoragePermanentException:The process failed to get the correct properties" .  This was occurring each time someone attempted to retrieve voice mail via the subscriber access number.  When they called the subscriber access number, they were prompted for PIN and when they said "Voice mail", they were told "Voice mail not currently available".  The user would see an email in Outlook with the voice mail attached but not receive a notification in Lync.  This was occurring because  access to their mailbox was either slow or prevented altogether over MAPI and EWS.  This customer uses on premise Exchange only for Voice mail at this time, so they did not notice this problem right away.  It turns out that this was caused by the antivirus product running on the mailbox servers (I won't point out which one).  Completely disabling the mailbox scans returned service to normal.  Although this Event 1079 was occurring on the UM servers, the problem was actually on the mailbox servers.  Hopefully this will help someone in the future.
