Installing Outlook 2010 and using Cached Exchange Mode in a Remote Desktop Services environment
Se aplica a: Office 2010
Última modificación del tema: 2016-11-29
By using Remote Desktop Services (RDS), you can use Microsoft Outlook 2010 without upgrading every computer in your organization. Users can work in the latest Microsoft Office 2010 environment even when their computers have limited hard disk space, memory, or processing speed.
Remote Desktop Services lets you run Microsoft Windows–based programs on a server and display the programs remotely on client computers. For example, you can install a single copy of Outlook 2010 on a computer running Remote Desktop. Then, instead of running Outlook locally, multiple users can connect to the Remote Desktop computer and run Outlook from there.

Cached Exchange Mode with Remote Desktop Services
Cached Exchange Mode is supported when Outlook 2010 is deployed in a RDS environment. However, for better scalability, we recommend that you use Online Mode with RDS for large deployments. For more information, see Cached Exchange Mode in a Remote Desktop Session Host environment: planning considerations (Outlook 2010) (white paper) (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=208740).
Nota
If Cached Exchange Mode is turned off, offline data files are not available.
Outlook features that are disabled with Remote Desktop Services
You cannot use the following Outlook features when you run Outlook in an RDS environment:
Forms Designer and the Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting Edition (VBScript) editor.
You can view a custom form. However, you cannot design a new form or revise an existing form.
Changing the Time Zone in Outlook.
Changing this setting in Outlook updates a system setting.
Changing Zone security settings in Outlook.
Changing this setting in Outlook updates a system setting.
Changing the status of a Microsoft Exchange Client Extension.
You cannot configure the status. However, if the Exchange Client Extension is already on, the extension should work correctly.
Adding stationery that was not included with Outlook as part of the RDS installation.
Outlook animations are disabled.
Examples of Outlook animations include Send/Receive animation and the Search Folder creation icon.
Enabling remote sound
By default, when Office 2010 is used over a Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) session, the New Mail sound uses the Default Beep sound and not the New Mail Notification sound.
To establish the correct sound, first ensure that the audio is enabled on the Remote Desktop computers. For more information, see HOW TO: Use Group Policy to Permit Users to Redirect and Play Audio in a Remote Desktop Session to Terminal Services in Windows Server 2003 (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=105038) or You Do Not Hear Any Sound During a Terminal Server Session (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=105039).
Next, configure the settings for remote computer sound on the Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) client, as shown in the following procedure.
Configure the settings for remote computer sound on the RDC client
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to Communications, and then click Remote Desktop Client.
In the Remote Desktop Connection dialog box, click Options.
Click the Local Resources tab.
In the Remote Computer Sound section, click Bring to this Computer in the drop-down list.
Click Connect to use the new settings.
On the Remote Desktop computer session, click Start, point to Control Panel, click Sound, and then click the Sounds tab.
In the Program section, locate Windows\Default Beep and assign a *.WAV file. You can reassign the Windows Notify.wav file from the New Mail Notification to the Windows\Default Beep.
Click OK.
Unlocking registry settings
By default, Remote Desktop clients do not have write access to the registry on the Remote Desktop computer, except to the registry hive under HKEY_CURRENT_USER. To run some Outlook features, you might have to give users write access to some keys and subkeys. For example, unlock the subkey HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID to let users use the custom MAPI forms for Outlook 2010.
