Instance Manipulation

Applies To: System Center 2012 - Service Manager

[This topic is pre-release documentation and is subject to change in future releases. Blank topics are included as placeholders.]

A management pack allows you define the structure of data and to create and save instances of that structured data. Each of these instances is called an enterprise management object (EMO). You can create, edit, or delete these EMO instances. Ideally, when you have multiple EMOs that relate to each other, you should obtain and group these objects in a hierarchy.

Enterprise Management Objects

Enterprise management objects are instances of management pack classes. When creating new EMOs, the management pack class that the EMO will be created from, is used. That EMO is then completed, and committed to Service Manager. These objects can then be retrieved later to be either updated or deleted.

Enterprise Management Object Projections

Projections enable you to group related EMOs together and explore those objects. By the use of projections you can access the backing EMOs for each part of the projection and then do what you want with them. A projection is designed with a specific hierarchal relationship between all the EMO types in that projection. In order to use a projection and explore the objects it represents, you should first understand its class types, their relationships, and their locations in the hierarchy.
