How to Add a CEPC to an Ethernet Network (Windows CE 5.0)

Send Feedback

You can add a CEPC to an Ethernet network to evaluate the networking capabilities of the Windows CE operating system (OS) running on the CEPC.

The steps required to network a CEPC vary according to the networking hardware that you set up for the CEPC. You can connect the CEPC to a network through a dedicated product Ethernet card installed on the CEPC. Alternatively, you can connect the CEPC to the network with the same Ethernet card that you use either to download a Windows CE run-time image to the CEPC or to debug the CEPC. If the VMINI Ethernet sharing library is included in the Windows CE OS, both debugging and application traffic can travel over a single Ethernet connection. For more information about the VMINI Ethernet sharing library, see Ethernet Debugging Services.

If you use a debug Ethernet card to connect to the network, you should be aware that a debug Ethernet card requires specific settings for IRQ and I/O base address. For information about the settings required for a debug Ethernet card, see Editing the Autoexec.bat File for an x86 SDB.

To track your progress in the following table, select the check box next to each step.

  Step Topic
1. Select and install on the CEPC any PCI or ISA Ethernet card that is NE2000 or SMC9000 compatible. Consult the vendor for your Ethernet card about NE2000 and SMC9000 compatibility. Not applicable
2. Create a boot floppy disk for the CEPC and modify the Autoexec.bat file on the boot floppy disk to recognize the Ethernet card. Creating a Boot Floppy Disk for an x86 SDB
3. Connect an Ethernet cable from the product Ethernet card on the CEPC to a hub on the network.

If you want to connect the CEPC to the network with the same Ethernet card that you use for downloading or debugging, then you do not need to make a second connection.

8. Download and boot a run-time image on the CEPC. Downloading a Run-Time Image
9. Access the network from the CEPC. You can, for example, ping a device on the network, or configure a Web browser to display information from the network. Not applicable
