Determine the multicast IP address range or ranges for use in your MADCAP server configuration. The ranges you select depend on whether you need to use administrative local scoping or global scoping practices to provide multicast address allocation service on your network.

Manually configure TCP/IP properties for the DHCP (MADCAP) server computer.

To install a MADCAP server, install the DHCP service.

Important

  • The DHCP service can be used to deploy MADCAP servers independently of how DHCP servers are used on your network. For example, to install Windows Server 2003 DHCP for MADCAP service only:

    1. Create multicast scopes.

    2. Do not create other scopes or superscopes.

    Only where other scopes or superscopes are configured, does the server computer also function as a DHCP server.

(Optional) If the DHCP (MADCAP) server is multihomed, you can disable service bindings for any connection not to be used to listen and provide service to DHCP (MADCAP) clients.

Create a multicast scope.

Create a multicast scope

If necessary, you can additionally manage multicast IP address allocation by creating and removing scopes, or by modifying multicast scope properties, such as scope TTL and lifetime settings as needed.

(Optional) For additional fault tolerance, you can implement DHCP clustering support using a server cluster.

  • DHCP clustering servers are implemented using the Clustering service, which is provided only with Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition.
