Remarks

The CheckBox control inherits from ToggleButton and can have three states: checked, unchecked, and indeterminate. The following illustration shows some check box controls in various states.

Silverlight CheckBox controls

Use the CheckBox control to provide a list of options that a user can select, such as a list of settings to apply to an application.

Both CheckBox and RadioButton controls allow the user to select from a list of options. CheckBox controls allow the user to select a combination of options. In contrast, RadioButton controls allow the user to select from mutually exclusive options.

CheckBox is a ContentControl. Its content property is Content. For more information, see Control Content Models.

Customizing the CheckBox Control

To apply the same property settings to multiple CheckBox controls, use the Style property. To change the visual structure and visual behavior of a CheckBox, copy and modify its default style and template. For more information, see Control Customization.

Dependency properties for this control might be set by the default style of the control. If a dependency property for a CheckBox is set by its default style, the property might change from its default value when the CheckBox appears in the application. For more information, see Dependency Property Value Precedence. You can get the default style and template for CheckBox from CheckBox Styles and Templates.

Setting a visual property will only have an effect if that property is both present in CheckBox control's default template and is set by using a TemplateBinding. You can find a list of visual properties in the "Changing the Visual Structure of a Control" section of Customizing the Appearance of an Existing Control by Using a ControlTemplate.

Examples

The following example shows two check box controls. The first check box demonstrates the checked and unchecked states. The second check box demonstrates the checked, unchecked, and indeterminate states. You can select the controls to change their appearance and see which state they are in.
