If you want to keep the keyboard backlight always on, unfortunately, there is no setting to keep the keyboard backlight always on or adjust its time out. However, you can try setting the screen and sleep duration of your device and observe if the keyboard backlit still behaves the same way. Go to your Settings >System> Power > Screen & sleep > click on battery power, turn off my screen after drop-down and select for longer duration of screen timeout.

I understand that you are looking for a way to keep the keyboard backlight on your Surface Laptop 5 permanently. Unfortunately, it is not possible to do so as the keyboard backlight is designed to turn off automatically after a period of inactivity to conserve battery life. However, you can adjust the timeout settings for the keyboard backlight by following these steps:

1. Go to Start menu and select Settings.

2. Select Devices.

3. Select Typing.

4. Under "More keyboard settings," select "Keyboard backlight settings."

5. Adjust the timeout settings to your preference.

If still not working, you can also do this step.

1. Go to Settings.
2. Click on System.
3. Select Power & sleep from the left pane.
4. Click on Additional power settings.
5. Select Change plan settings next to the power plan you are currently using.
6. Click on Change advanced power settings.
7. Scroll down to Keyboard backlight timeout and expand it.
8. Change the value to the desired duration.

Note that keeping the keyboard backlight on for an extended period of time may significantly reduce your device's battery life.
