Please add support for pausing resuming downloads, this would be great.

Please also make it easy to browse through past downloads (and also to clear this history).

Have a default download directory so you don't have to go through save as.

    Dear Ali,

Why do you have security zones? Why don't you just have granular privileges set for each site or resource instead?

This gets you away from the 'either/or' mentality when choosing between security zones.

The 'security levels' you set for each are meant to increase monotonically in every regard as you move down the zones. However, as I'm sure you're aware, it doesn't work like that in many real-world examples.

Ali, please overhaul the security certificates system. Newbies ignore them and clueful people don't trust Verisign. Get a better digital signature system in place.

I agree with Hmmm, no patents.

Why does it take so long to clear my cache? Firefox is near instant.

Also, sometimes IE remembers things in its address bar even if I have cleared the history. Please fix this!

please see http://blogs.msdn.com/jeffdav/archive/2004/12/02/273890.aspx for details on the workings of IE cache and the funny quirks involved therein.

As for the history, I am not aware of IE remembering any thing in the address bar if you Clear the history. Addresses in the Start->Run Menu are another thing altogether.

Just to make sure you can clear the following key to ensure there are no URLs to display in the address bar:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerTypedURLs

I do quite a bit of troubleshooting of machines of home and nontechnical users. Most of these people are quite satisfied with IE. Those that aren't generally have their system so infected with spyware and malware that they have downloaded an alternative browser simply because IE does not work anymore. For these users, the most important feature of a new version of IE would be that when they install it, things start working again.

    Why Use Firefox?

“Beware of spyware. If you can, use the Firefox browser.” - USA Today

“Better than Internet Explorer by leaps and bounds.” - FORBES

    Popup Blocking
Stop annoying popup ads in their tracks with Firefox's built in popup blocker.
    Tabbed Browsing
View more than one web page in a single window with this time saving feature. Open links in the background so that they're ready for viewing when you're ready to read them. Find out more...
    Privacy and Security
Built with your security in mind, Firefox keeps your computer safe from malicious spyware by not loading harmful ActiveX controls. A comprehensive set of privacy tools keep your online activity your business.
    Smarter Search
Google Search is built right into the toolbar, and there is a plethora of other search tools including Smart Keywords (type "dict <word>" in the Location bar), and the new Find bar (which finds text as you type without covering up anything).
    Live Bookmarks
RSS integration lets you read the latest news headlines and read updates to your favorite sites that are syndicated. Find out more...
    Hassle-Free Downloading
Files you download are automatically saved to your Desktop so they're easy to find. Fewer prompts mean files download quicker.
    Fits Like a Glove
Simple and intuitive, yet fully featured, Firefox has all the functions you're used to - Bookmarks, History, Full Screen, Text Zooming to make pages with small text easier to read, etc.
    S, M, L or XL—It's Your Choice
Firefox is the most customizable browser on the planet. Customize your toolbars to add additional buttons, install new Extensions that add new features, add new Themes to browse with style, and use the adaptive search system to allow you to search an infinite number of engines. Firefox is as big or small as you want.
    Setup's a Snap
At only 4.7MB (Windows), Firefox takes just a few minutes to download over a slow connection and seconds over a fast connection. The installer gets you set up quickly, and the new Easy Transition system imports all of your settings - Favorites, passwords and other data from Internet Explorer and other browsers - so you can start surfing right away.
    A Developer's Best Friend
Firefox comes with a standard set of developer tools including a powerful JavaScript and CSS error/warning console, and an optional Document Inspector that gives detailed insight about your pages.
    Read Mail—Not Spam
Thunderbird is the perfect complement to Firefox.

Three things to add for IE 7.

    1. Follow the standards. If you want to use your "improvements" in rendering pages, add it as an extra, like what Borland did with Pascal.

    2. Add Tabbed Browsing. I use Firefox mainly because of this feature.

    3. Enable addons system similar to Firefox Extensions if possible.

While options 1 and 3 might be difficult to implement for a number of reasons, PLEASE make Tabbed Browsing available.

How about some operating efficiency. IE 6 on Win2k Pro still uses tremendous amounts of memory. Admittedly, Firefox is no longer a lightweight either. Top three wishes:<br>1) Make it fully support CSS2 and XHTML 1.1 correctly.(If you want to add bells and whistles add OPTIONAL functionality and integrated features such as RSS support or cross application functions such as integrated Media Player features.)<br>2) Make it secure.<br>3) Lets see some tabs. <br>As mentioned above customizability would be nice but lets all remember that IE is for the masses and the masses dont't customize. It might not be bad to have a developer tool-set as a seperate download like Chris Pederick's Webdeveloper toolbar for Mozilla/Gecko Based Browsers.
