You learn something new... (threshold markings)
From the FAA:
"Runway threshold markings come in two configurations. They either consist of eight longitudinal stripes of uniform dimensions disposed symmetrically about the runway centerline, as shown in FIG 2-3-1, or the number of stripes is related to the runway width as indicated in TBL 2-3-2."
Runway Width |
Number of Stripes |
---|---|
60 feet (18 m) |
4 |
75 feet (23 m) |
6 |
100 feet (30 m) |
8 |
150 feet (45 m) |
12 |
200 feet (60 m) |

That's funny, while implementing runway ligthings, I was in section right next to this one just a few weeks ago :)

Hi,
I'm guessing that this means we'll be seeing the new ICAO style threshold marking in FSX. Thats great, as it was on my wishlist for FS2004.
Matthieu's link to the AIM is great, and since he put it out there, I want to add th following link to help clarify some other lighting issues: http://nwp.natca.org/Administration/Documents/Airtrafficpublications/FSS/Ch11/fss1101/fss1101.html
It delves into WHEN ans HOW the various forms of lighting are used. IT would be great to see this implemented in FSX. And in Mathieu's Flight Simulator Project as well.
Take care.

When talking about wishlists and lighting, I still (FS9) am missing the feature of PCL (Pilot controlled lighting via CTAF). FU3 had this very nice feature, and it was always nice to be near an airport, clicking several times on the comms button to see the lights turning on.Anonymous

Hi all yup it would be nice to see the proper runway markings in the sim! I hope it makes into FSx BTW the above is not really new it has been around for a while although not compulsory in the U.S. Most of the rest of the world has used varying numbers of runway "piano keys" for many years. BTW thanks for adding leading zeros to runways outside of the U.S. in FSx. As for PCL Fly! had this feature as well from the outset and one could simplt add it buy editing the "airport database" Now if the team could either add to ATC "voice pack" so that outside of the U.S. one gets the "proper" calls from ATC I.E. one never gets vectored to say runway 6 it's allways 06. And the names for the different ATC units vary as well here in Canada
one does not call aproach you call arrival. In Europe approach goes by several different names includeing director etc. Same goes for "center" in Europe one calls "control" I.E. London contol. So what I and other people in the add-on comunity would like to see are good hooks into the game's voice routines via an APISDK so that we can write the needed tools so that we can add what we need to any area in the world (unless the kind people at Micrsoft are able to add the above to the code for the game for us!) Anyway thanks for giving us the ability to post what we would like to see in the next version of FS.

And it's different in Europe: please don't forget. The FAA's writ doesn't actaully run here, although it somestimes seems as if does.Anonymous
