Getting Windows Vista SP1 on DVD

A few people have asked me whether they can get Windows Vista SP1 on DVD rather than downloading it.

If you visit this link you can have a copy sent to you as long as you're ok to pay for postage.

I am not sure why Microsoft think it is ok to charge anything to consumers and business in order to correct flaws in their product. By definition, a SP indicates that Vista SP0 was defective - ergo MS should offer to ship an updated DVD for free to any person requesting one. Or does MS believe that normal rules about goods and services don't apply to them?

Julian - SP1 is available free of charge to download. It contains a roll-up of some fixes and some enhancements. I believe that there are various ways vendors of computer software provide these kind of enhancements / fixes. As far as I know Microsoft are providing a fairly reasonable approach by providing a full download for free and requiring payment to cover costs for CD versions. However I'm no expert in these matters so please take these views as my opinion only.

Over £7 for postage of a DVD that takes 28 days to deliver is a bit expensive I think.
