- "Houston" was the first word heard from the moon on that historical day on July 20, 1969, spoken by the famous Neil Armstrong; “Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed.”
- With over 8,000 restaurants in the Houston area, the average Houstonians eat out approximately 4.2 times per week, which is more than residents of any other American city.
- Behind New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, Houston is the fourth most populous city in the United States, and the largest city in the southern states.
- In 2013, Houston was named one of the top 10 greenest cities in the United States by causes.com. Houston has 50,632 acres of total park space, with 22.6 acres per 1,000 residents.
- Houston is one of only a few American cities with resident professional companies in all four disciples of the performing arts: theatre, ballet, opera and symphony.
- Spanning 634 square miles, the City of Houston could contain the cities of New York, Miami, Boston, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington and Minneapolis.
- Houston is the birth place of the legendary pop star, Beyoncé Knowles. Beyoncé spent much of her childhood years rehearsing in her mother’s salon with a small group of girls, who would later become known as Destiny’s child.
- The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is the world largest live entertainment and livestock exhibition, first show being in 1932. In 2013, the show attracted a record high attendance of 2,506,238 people.
- Houston climate is considered Humid Subtropical, that almost never sees snow. Although, after a light snow-storm on December 24, 2004, the region witnessed a never-before seen white Christmas.
- Houston has an 11km system of tunnels and skywalks between its downtown buildings, enabling its residents and pedestrians to avoid the summer heat and rain.
